NORC at the University of Chicago seeks an experienced marketing/communications professional with expertise in product/program development including communications research and data collection and analysis. The successful candidate will help design health communication programs and campaigns that deliver quality information to U.S. consumers and other audiences. Digital experience is desirable; however, we are looking for a well-rounded communications practitioner.  


NORC research on health-related issues is conducted with the goals of informing public and policy makers and improving Americans' quality of life. Health research has been an important component of NORC’s work since its earliest years and is today the largest business area in the company.

Health research is conducted within four research departments: Health Sciences, Health Care Evaluation, Health Care Programs, and Public Health, each led by closely collaborating Department Heads. Each health department delivers research and policy analysis, large and small-scale survey data collection, program evaluation, qualitative research, methodological research, and technical assistance to its clients which include the federal government, foundations, and commercial sector clients. NORC’s Public Health research department also delivers communication planning, product message development and testing, partnership development and outreach, and campaign implementation and evaluation design.

The NORC health communication practice combines a focus on both public health and health care with a commitment to the development of culturally-sensitive, scientifically-based programs that make full use of web and new media in addition to more traditional communication channels. 


Leveraging subject matter expertise in the area of health marketing and communications, the successful candidate will serve as a health communication strategist for the Public Health department and its communication portfolio. Working with other senior health communication senior staff at NORC, this position will lead various types of health communication projects on behalf of clients, spearhead health communication strategies that enhance NORC’s business offerings, and lead and work on new business efforts related to health communication.

Responsibilities include a broad array of activities including:

  • Develop and recommend marketing/communication strategies and techniques that enhance and support current and future work
  • Assess current health communication offerings and approaches and recommend enhancements
  • Develop and support communication initiatives across the areas of project/task management, content development, partnership development, digital and social media strategy, and data/metrics tracking and analysis
  • Lead and manage communication evaluation activities on behalf of client projects
  • Lead and support new business efforts as appropriate
  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, communications, social/behavioral sciences or some other relevant discipline; Master’s Degree or PhD strongly preferred
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in marketing/communications with product/program development, most of which has been focused on public health topics
  • Digital experience is a "nice to have"
  • Experience using market/audience research to develop communications strategy preferred
  • Experience with communication campaign implementation and metrics evaluation
  • Experience promoting health information via a variety of communication channels to consumers and other target audiences
  • Project planning/management, budgeting and client contact experience
  • Outstanding writing and presentation skills
  • Business development experience including proposal writing
  • Expertise with multicultural communications campaigns preferred
  • Familiarity with new digital and mobile platforms as well as social media
  • Ability to contribute to the growth of NORC health marketing/communication practice
