JOB DESCRIPTION:

NORC's Strategic Communications and External Affairs department seeks a current graduate student to fulfill the role of Graduate Research Assistant II to support our research efforts.

This role will pay $16.00 an hour and requires approximately 10-15 hours of work a week. Unfortunately, we are not able to provide any type of Visa sponsorship for this position. 

Due to current COVID-19 safety measures, employees who can work from home, are required to do so.  Once it is safe to resume standard practices of commuter travel and social interaction per government guidelines, we expect employees to maintain an office presence as required by projects needs and department leadership.

DEPARTMENT:

STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS & EXTERNAL AFFAIRS

Strategic Communications and External Affairs supports the entire NORC organization with expertise in corporate communications and creative services, external affairs, internal communications, and project-level communications. We help promote NORC to the public: we work with members of the media to publicize our research projects and our expertise; we support external events where NORC experts present or speak; we publish NORC’s annual report; we maintain the external NORC website, www.norc.org; and we manage NORC’s social media presence on Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conduct research on reporters, influencers, media outlets, and other research organizations.
  • Draft media materials such as press releases, media advisories, social media content, and others.
  • Preparation of research findings, in an easy-to-understand format.
  • Administrative tasks such as material preparation, note taking, scheduling, and others.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Must be currently enrolled in a Graduate program, preferably in Communications/Media Studies or Public Relations.  
  • Must be able to work 10-15 hours per week during academic years; possibility exists for increased hours during term and summer breaks
  • Must have outstanding interpersonal, critical reasoning, analytic, and writing skills
  • Experience with data analysis and Communications metrics are preferred. Must be able to provide context while presenting and discussing metrics.
  • Must demonstrate strong problem-solving and time-management capabilities.
  • Must have the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, both independently and potentially on project teams
  • Strong proficiency with MS Office software is expected
