NORC at the University of Chicago, an objective and non-partisan research organization with more than 80 years of leadership in data collection, program evaluation, data analysis, technical assistance, and information dissemination, seeks a Vice President for the Health Sciences research department. The new Vice President will join the department’s and the broader Health Group’s senior leadership team in developing and implementing a strategy to further expand our portfolio of work in technical assistance, survey design and data collection, and implementation science.
The new Health Sciences Vice President will support a strong and growing portfolio of work with a focus on the National Institutes for Health (NIH), Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), and Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI). This is a strategic roles that will further develop our health research function at one of the nation's most respected research institutions, significantly impacting NORC’s success and service to our clients.
|DEPARTMENT: Health Sciences
NORC’s Health Sciences staff produce rich data on health care priorities including the uses of electronic clinical data in research, and the applications and effectiveness of health information technology.
Our expert staff evaluates the effectiveness of federal investments in informatics, supports the emerging fields of patient-centered outcomes research and mobile health. The staff also work on large implementation science projects involving patient safety and quality.
NORC’s Health Sciences staff work closely with colleagues in Health Care and Public Health to offer program, policy, and research solutions. Our work is guided by a commitment to long-lasting partnerships, transparency, and high-quality, nonpartisan research that improves health and health care for all people.
- Collaborate with the Health Sciences Senior Vice President and other senior staff to develop and implement a strategy to strengthen and grow the department’s portfolio of work for federal and non-federal health clients.
- Foster an environment that promotes professional growth of Health Sciences’ staff (currently 60+ staff).
- Support a cohesive, team-oriented culture across a geographically dispersed staff and promote communication and integration among all members.
- Lead business development efforts with the federal government, with particular emphasis on expanding the portfolio of work at NIH as well as other agencies such as AHRQ and PCORI.
- Develop and maintain client relationships with the federal, non-profit, academic, and foundation sectors.
- Develop and maintain key partnerships with other research organizations and research leaders that will support and advance the success of the Health Sciences department.
- Further grow the Health Sciences research team both through the development of current staff and the strategic recruitment of new professionals with additional capabilities.
- Serve as a senior leader within NORC’s Health Group four departments, which comprises Health Sciences, Public Health, Health Care Programs, and Health Care Evaluation.
- Master’s degree in health-related, social sciences, or another relevant discipline is required; doctorate is preferred.
- At least 15 years of directly applicable work experience in a nonprofit organization, research organization or government agency is required.
- Demonstrated evidence of building a federal portfolio of work that is transferable to the Health Sciences business areas of focus.
- A track record for building, developing, managing and retaining a team of highly capable research professionals.
- Recognition as an expert in a content area in health research, as evidenced by supporting publications and presentations.
- Understanding of qualitative and quantitative methodologies as well as developments in data science.
- Expertise in managing large scale, complex research projects, or other similar accomplishments.
- Candidate will be Chicago or Washington DC/Bethesda MD-based.
- Experience in reporting on research to a wide range of stakeholders using a variety of platforms.
- Successful record of securing and developing high-caliber, compelling health projects.
- Occasional travel between NORC offices and to meet with current and prospective clients may be required.
