JOB DESCRIPTION:

NORC at the University of Chicago seeks a Senior Research Analyst to support project work in the International Programs Department (INPRO.)

The Senior Research Analyst (SRA) will support senior level technical staff in designing and implementing research and evaluation projects, monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) projects, and quantitative and/or qualitative data collection and analysis.

Applicants must be based in our Bethesda, MD or Chicago, IL office when it is safe to resume office work.

INPRO was established in 2005, and works on impact and performance evaluations, surveys, and qualitative data collection, among other research activities throughout the developing world. Our research covers a range of sectors including education and training, child and youth well-being, democracy and governance, agriculture, water and sanitation, vulnerable populations, infrastructure, housing, finance, and health (applicants should clearly specify which sectors they have previous experience in). Since its establishment INPRO has implemented projects in nearly 90 countries throughout the world.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide project management support, including workplan management on research/evaluation and data collection projects.
  • Support senior level technical staff in designing and implementing evaluation projects, MEL projects, and data collection and analysis activities.
  • Coordinate project activities and events, including setting up meetings and conference calls, taking meeting minutes, and liaising with consultants and local data collection firms
  • Support the design of survey instruments and training materials, coordination of and assistance to interviewer training activities, and sample design and selection.
  • Support qualitative research and data collection; code and process qualitative data; support analysis.
  • Conduct data quality reviews of survey data with detailed documentation of results, and analysis of primary and secondary data (quantitative and qualitative) including preparation of reports, memos, and tables/graphs of findings.
  • Assist with business development, possibly contributing to technical sections of proposals, gathering and customizing supporting documentation to each proposal, assisting with recruitment, and supporting proposal management
  • The position will require occasional international travel and offers an opportunity to gain first-hand management and field experience.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Bachelor's Degree in social sciences. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • At least 3 years of work experience including:
    • Experience working on research and evaluation projects
    • Experience with quasi-experimental and experimental research design activities preferred.
    • Experience conducting surveys (questionnaire development, interviewer training, field management) and/or qualitative data collection (focus groups, key informant interviews)
    • Experience working with large datasets, conducting data management, data quality review and data analysis and/or experience coding and processing qualitative data
    • Experience managing research projects including development of workplans, tracking progress on specific tasks and communicating deadlines to team members
  • Experience with one or more of the following areas is strongly preferred:
    • Vulnerable populations (human trafficking, modern slavery, gender-based violence, and at-risk migration)
    • Democracy and governance
    • Monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL)
  • Strong command of statistical packages, such as SPSS and STATA; and/or command of qualitative software packages such as NVivo is considered a plus
  • Strong proficiency with MS Office software, including Excel
  • Fluency in French or Spanish, both written and oral, is highly desirable
  • Strong analytic and report writing skills
  • Outstanding interpersonal and critical reasoning skills
  • International work experience, preferably in developing countries.
