NORC's Statistics and Data Science department seeks a Graduate Research Assistant to support project work from fall 2022 through spring 2023.  

As a condition of employment, all NORC employees and contractors – including those working remotely – must be fully vaccinated (as defined by current CDC guidance) against COVID-19.

DEPARTMENT: Statistics and Data Science

The Statistics and Data Science department conducts a wide range of statistical projects, engaging in statistical analysis, modeling, data linkage, matching, disclosure control, small area estimation, and Bayesian analysis, to support all aspects of social science research. NORC statisticians and data scientists design and implement rigorous, efficient methods for sampling, weighting, and imputation for sample surveys and evaluation research. They also employ advanced techniques for analyzing and interpreting data. The department collaborates with the Methodology and Quantitative Social Sciences department, all NORC research departments, and the Academic Research Centers in addition to conducting research in its own field.


  • Support NORC’s internal and client projects involving data management and data analysis
  • Work with senior statistical staff on general research and initiatives 
  • Currently enrolled in Master's or higher degree program
  • Outstanding interpersonal, critical reasoning, analytic, and writing skills
  • Fluent with open-source program languages (e.g., Python, R) and commercial statistical software (e.g. SAS, Stata)
  • The incumbent must demonstrate strong problem-solving capability
  • The ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, both independently and in project teams
