Senior Accountant - Hybrid Chicago Loop Office

JOB SUMMARY:

Join NORC at the University of Chicago as a Senior Accountant. This position is responsible for reconciling, analyzing and reviewing general ledger accounts monthly, preparing financial spreadsheet/schedules for various general ledger accounts, calculating and preparing invoices as needed. The Senior Accountant will also be responsible managing the accounting activities of all Service Contract Act projects and ASC 842, accounting for leases.

Location: This is a hybrid role based in our Chicago Loop office, with a minimum of six days per month in the office.

The Finance and Accounting departments contribute to NORC’s financial success by supporting the research departments with skill and integrity. The Accounting department navigates complex government regulatory and accounting environments while ensuring that the day-to-day operations of NORC’s financial matters are conducted in a timely and efficient manner.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Prepare general ledger journal entries and reconciliations (Lease Accounting Entries, Payroll Entries, Depreciation/Amortization Entries, etc.)
  • Perform reconciliations, identify discrepancies, and research root cause to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Assist with preparation and posting of invoices.
  • Assist with weekly/monthly processes within CostPoint general/project ledger.
  • Support the annual external audit by preparing PBCs and addressing inquiries/follow-up.
  • Manage the day-to-day accounting activities of Service Contract Act projects.
  • Maintain, review and audit labor locations and wage determinations for SCA projects.
  • Serve as the point of contact for human resources, financial analysts, project directors and information technology staff regarding SCA issues.
  • Work on special requests/projects as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting.
  • At least 5 years of professional general accounting work.
  • Experience with Deltek CostPoint and Concur a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience using an automated accounting system; proficiency in Outlook, Excel, and Word is required.
  • Proficient in FASB standards, SOX compliance, and established accounting procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail, critical thinking skills, and ability to solve problems in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work and meet deadlines with minimal supervision using established guidelines and procedures.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

The pay range for this position is $77,000 - $100,000.

This position is classified as regular. Regular staff are eligible for NORC’s comprehensive benefits program. Benefits include, but are not limited to:
